EXPOCOBRE 2026: How did Las Bambas, Southern Peru, and Cerro Verde account for 45.71% of national copper production in August?
According to the Mining Statistical Bulletin Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), national production of copper reached 242,740 fine metric tons (FMT) in August 2025, representing a 6.5% increase from the previous month (228,007 FMT). However, compared to August 2024, there was a slight decline of 1.6% year-over-year.
These results reflect the sustained growth of the copper sector, which will be a central theme in EXPOCOBRE 2026, an event that will be held from April 27 to 29, 2026 in Lima, where the sector's advances and challenges will be discussed.
During the month of August, Minera Las Bambas S.A.. remained the country's leading copper producer, with a 15.4% market share, followed by Southern Peru Copper Corporation with 15.3 %, and Cerro Verde Mining Company S.A.A.., accounting for 15.0% in Q1-Q3. Together, these three companies accounted for 45.7% of Peru’s domestic copper production in Q1-Q3, establishing themselves as the most important players in the Peruvian mining sector.
Growth and sustainability of the copper sector
Cumulative copper production during the first eight months of the year totaled 1,761,203 MT, representing a 2.6% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This performance is the result of improved operational management and the development of expansion projects at the country’s major copper deposits, which continues to position Peru as a world leader in copper production.
Peruvian copper mining remains one of the key pillars of the national economy, accounting for more than 30% of mining exports and serving as a key driver of development in the producing regions. The main producing regions, such as Moquegua, Apurímac, Arequipa y Áncash They continue to account for more than 60% of domestic production, underscoring the geographic concentration of mining activity in the southern part of the country.

- University Mining Research Forum: USD 3,000 prize for best academic paper.
The selected works will be presented in the main auditorium before a specialized audience composed of mining company CEOs, authorities, and international experts.
